Online Choir Practice #2: Gloria

As this next piece is a bit long, I’d like to go over some tips on Reading Gregorian Chant. There’s a very good slideshow here. Also there is currently a free colouring book about learning to read Gregorian Chant at Frog Music’s Sacred Music Shelf Space. (Both books FREE from Midnight Friday February 28 until 12PM March 4th)

Next is the Gloria from Mass 1: http://youtu.be/YLw329fUMNY

A recording from Corpus Christi Watershed

I’ve also added in the next few pages in the excerpt. This leads into the Gradual and Alleluia which come between the Epistle and the Gospel – like where the Responsorial Psalm would go. The Gradual for each day in the Easter Octave starts with the words “This is the day that the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” which you might know to another tune in English. I’m not sure if we’re going to be able to learn it online like this, but it’s good to know what it is and where it fits.

We just sing the first bit – stopping at about 1:18.
